The Intergenerational Effects of Changes in Women's Educational Attainments.

The effect of the socioeconomic characteristics in one generation on the socioeconomic achievement of the next generation is the central concern of social stratification research. Researchers typically address this issue by analyzing the associations between the characteristics of parents and offspring. This approach, however, focuses on observed parent-offspring pairs and ignores that changes ...

Intergenerational Equity

Axiomatic analysis of intergenerational social preferences over infinite streams of well-being faces the following dilemma. Equal treatment of generations combined with sensitivity for the interests of each generation rules out explicitly defined preferences that can rank any pair of infinite well-being streams. Hence, either intergenerational social preferences must be incomplete or equal trea...

Can intergenerational equity be operationalized?

A long Utilitarian tradition has the ideal of equal regard for all individuals, both those now living and those yet to be born. This paper arg...

Pareto Principle and Intergenerational Equity : Immedi - ate

In an important contribution to the problem of aggregating infinite utility streams, Svensson (1980) shows the existence of a social welfare relation—a reflexive, transitive and complete binary relation over all possible infinite utility streams—that accommodates the axioms of Pareto and intergenerational equity. This possibility result is in sharp contrast with the seminal contribution by Diam...
